Lautus is a woody, citrus, aromatic scent created for Men and Women in 2020 by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour in collaboration with Steven Gavrielatos of Redolessence.
Review
This scent dances the line between masculine and feminine. Its Chypre nuance will please anyone’s nose. Citrus essences open this scent, keeping it fresh within the woody layers of the composition. A very slight powdery flair can be felt lingering within the mix, but never becomes bothersome. It is almost reminiscent of the long-lost chypre and barbershop scents, but never makes you feel like your scent is too ‘old’. It is a scent that can be worn in the workplace, to any casual or formal occasion in your schedule, while lounging around the house or running errands, or simply any time you just want to smell good. It will become intimate and close to the skin over time, but will last you most of your day or evening. It has been compared to Roja Parfums Danger Parfum Cologne and Zino Davidoff.
Inspiration
Lautus translates to “Chic”, “Elegant”, or “Sumptuous” in Latin. This scent’s Chypre accord pays homage to another time, when the best scents were some form of Chypre, classy, elegant, and timeless, with a sensual appeal.
Notes
A blend of citrus essence opens this scent with Neroli Oil, Verbena and Yuzu. Lavender and Juniper Berry add an ever-so-slight Fougere twist that is softened with Freesia and Orris. Cascarilla adds its spicy, woody essence just before the woodiness of the base sets in. Ambergris adds a velvety quality to a blend of Patchouli, Sandalwood, and Palisander Rosewood. A touch of Vanilla Absolute at the end adds a subtle sweetness that plays well off of the lightness from the beginning.
