Fragrance Spotlight: Amouage Sunshine Woman

Amouage’s Midnight Flowers collection was launched in 2014 and included Sunshine Man and Woman, Bracken Man and Woman, and Beach Hut Man and Woman.

While you can still find limited supplies of Beach Hut Man and Sunshine Woman, this collection and all of its fragrances have, sadly, been discontinued.

Today we’re highlighting Sunshine Woman, a White Floral, Gourmand scent that was created by perfume Sidonie Lancesseur.

The concept of the Midnight Flowers collection was to make a departure from the dark, moody, serious fragrances created by the brand up to this point. It was a collection meant to inspire feelings of happiness, hope and love.

Sunshine Woman was the first fragrance launched and was inspired by the warm radiance of sunlight on the skin.

It is a creamy, fruity, warm, floral scent with hints of Tobacco and earthy notes.

Blackcurrant Liqueur is blended with the fruity nuance of Davana and the Apricot-like vibes of Osmanthus for a sweet and fruity essence that leans almost jammy at times. Almond and Vanilla further the creamy Gourmand nuances while Jasmine and Magnolia bring a rich, almost Indolic, essence to the scent. Blond Tobacco adds a slight smoky essence which pairs well with the earthy tones of Cade, Patchouli and Papyrus. Instead of weighing down the fragrance into something darker, these warm base notes add depth and potency that keep the sweet and creamy vibes lasting to the end.

The scent pyramid breaks down as:

Top Notes: Blackcurrant Liqueur, Almond, Davana

Heart Notes: Osmanthus Absolute, Jasmine, Vanilla, Magnolia

Base Notes: Cade, Patchouli, Blond Tobacco, Papyrus

This rich blend in the base, when mixed with the Indolic essence of the Jasmine, can create a sort of dirtiness on some people’s skin. But overall, the scent was readily accepted and loved, and has become a sort of cult favorite of the brand.

Sidonie’s idea for the fragrance was to bottle the feeling of a perfect, sun-drenched day, and she really did capture that essence.

When you wear Sunshine Woman, you get a sweet and creamy floral aroma with hints of smokiness. It has a creamy, beachy style to it. It smells like warm, sun kissed skin with a Vanilla aroma. It smells like a fabulous Summer day after you’ve driven around town with the windows down, capturing the ozonic elements of the air in your hair; you’ve stopped at the farmers market and picked up a fresh bouquet of White Flowers; you sat on the patio of a seaside restaurant and soaked up the sun.

It smells like a perfect Summer day that you never want to end.

It’s warm and sweet and inviting. It’s playful and casually elegant. It’s carefree and breezy and fun.

While Sunshine Woman has officially been discontinued, limited quantities can be found at Parfumerie Nasreen in store and online.
