Interlude 53 Man is a woody, smoky, earthy scent created for Men in 2020 by perfumer Pierre Negrin.
Review
This scent is not as intense as you might expect. Though the original Interlude Man has been toned down a bit over the years, it truly was a striking scent upon its release, and you might be expecting a beast with Interlude 53 Man. It definitely has some intensity to it, with the Oregano note being intensified alongside the resins, spice and earth notes of the heart and base. It doesn’t quite feel food-like, but the Oregano is definitely present here. There is almost a sweet undertone to the original Interlude Man, but there is a sharpness to the 53. It feels like everything is intensified. The Frankincense, Cistus and Opoponax are more resinous and smoky; the Leather is more spicy, the Patchouli more earthy, and the Agarwood and Sandalwood more woody. It feels smoky and spicy, and like a manly man. It conjures the image of a lumberjack who lives in a cabin in the woods, who has cleaned up very well for a romantic night out. He still smells like the woods and nature, but there is something carnal and appealing about him tonight. It is an exquisite scent. It feels like a scent that you should avoid wearing to the office, but will work for any cold weather event on your calendar, or anytime you want to be distinct and make an impression. Its 53% pure oil essence will last forever on the skin. It is comparable to the original Interlude Man 2012 release that was called the “Blue Beast”, but possibly even more intense.
Inspiration
Interlude Man is inspired by chaos and disorder, and those interlude moments of harmony within. Interlude 53 Man takes that a step further, reflecting the power of time and how it can change things.
Notes
The Oregano can be felt immediately upon first spray of this scent. The Pimento Berry and Bergamot add a gentle freshness to the opening, giving a feeling of a slow descent into the depth and richness that is to come. Frankincense, Cistus and Opoponax add a smoky essence, further intensifying the Oregano note. Amber sits in the heart, helping to mellow the drive of the sharpness just slightly. Leather keeps things spicy alongside the earthiness of Patchouli, where its sharpness shines among the resins. Agarwood and Sandalwood finish off the scent with a woody essence, that gains a realistic quality from the resins and Leather. Overall, the scent is intense and intriguing.
