Opus XV King Blue is a fruity, Ambery, woody scent created for Men and Women in 2023 by perfumers Alexis Grugeion and Hamid Merati-Kashani.
Review
This scent is rich and intense, with a lightness to it. The Blackcurrant and Mandarin give the opening a nice sweetness, followed almost immediately by the sharp intensity of the Frankincense and Oud. There is so much deepness, bordering on a barnyard type of earthiness, yet everything mellows into a smooth essence that is almost like being near the ocean, next to a bonfire made with fragrant woods. It might be a bit much for an office scent, but could work if given time to dry down beforehand. It is a great scent for Fall, Winter, and Spring with incredible longevity. It will work well for all occasions, transitioning easily from casual to formal. It is comparable to Amouage Opus XIII Silver Oud, after having dried down for many hours, and blended with some type of aquatic scent.
Inspiration
Opus XV King Blue is a reimagining of the genre of “Blue” fragrances with an Amouage twist. Conventional and unconventional meet to create a scent that turns the mundane upside down.
Notes
Almost immediately you get the gentle sweetness from Mandarin and Blackcurrant. Even with that, you can smell something dark lurking beneath the surface. Within minutes the sharper elements of Frankincense and Oud make themselves known. Blending with Patchouli and Leather, an almost barnyard-like dirty, earthy, essence is apparent. Amber, though found in the heart of this scent, is felt later. Its velvety essence keeps up with the depth of the base, yet mellowing the sharpness. As things begin to calm on the skin, the sweeter notes help to add a lightness back into the essence of the scent, and you can feel the subtle “Blue” aspect that was being aimed for.
