Bonbon Pop is a Gourmand, Amber, Patchouli scent created for Men and Women in 2023 by perfumer Douglas Morel.
Review
This scent starts off incredibly sweet. The blend of Peach and Coconut makes it feel like something along the lines of taffy or cotton candy. This pretty quickly mellows into the earthy elements of Patchouli and Woods. And then everything settles in together and the sweetness comes back, but less intense. You can then feel the Jasmine start to creep in, but it remains very gentle. The Amber then begins to set it, adding a sweet warmth. This scent goes back and forth constantly, feeling very sweet one moment, then warm and sultry the next, then back to candy-like sweetness. It’s intoxicating and enveloping. It feels like the scent you wear as an adult, that captures that juicy sweetness of the scents you wore while school, but gives them a more mature twist while remaining playful and energetic. After a while it dries down into something like candied Amber, and becomes a sultry, sweet, warm, Ambery scent. There is so much intrigue here! It has a vibe that feels very appropriate for any weather or season. It can be worn any time, place or occasion, though waiting for the sugary sweetness to dry down a bit may be needed for very formal settings. It does lean slightly feminine in the beginning, but mellows out really nicely into a very universal sweet scent that can be worn by anyone. It has been compared to Gossip Night from Gritti.
Inspiration
Bonbon Pop takes inspiration from the memories of childhood. The sweet essence of a carefree life, and the indulgence of sweet treats that built core memories.
Notes
Bergamot brightens the sweetness of White Peach and Coconut, which combine to create a candy-like aroma. This fades in and out as the Patchouli and Precious Woods blend together to add a gentle woodiness. The sweetness comes back as the note of Brown Sugar sets in, but less intense and not quite as candy-like. You can feel the Jasmine peeking through, adding its familiar tones that are somewhere between flower petals and dirty flowers. The sweetness stays under the surface as the naturally sweet warmth of Dry Amber settles in and mellows everything out with a nice smoothness. Musc finishes off this scent, adding a wispy elegance.
