Matsukita is a Woody, Floral, Tea scent created for Men and Women in 2021 by perfumer Ralf Schwieger.

Review

This scent is fresh and light with a hint of a zing. Bergamot and Pink Pepper create a sparkling and invigorating opening with a tinge of spice from the Nutmeg. The Mate Tea comes in pretty quickly after that, almost confusing the senses for a minute as the sweet spiciness of the Nutmeg pulls back and the bitter zing of the Mate Tea comes up. The Chinese Imperial Jasmine adds a subtle petally floral quality that is very pleasing to the senses. There is an interesting herbal green quality that develops as the Tea blends into the brighter notes and the Oakmoss sets in. Musk and Woods add depth to the overall lightness of the scent, which helps with longevity and adds a gentle woodiness. There is a vibe as if you’re smelling loose Mate Tea leaves, that goes back and forth between the Bergamot and the gentle lean of the Woods, which both play well with the naturally very subtle smoky essence of Mate. Overall it kind of feels like a fresh Tea scent with depth and floral hints. This scent has a casual elegance to it that makes it work for any time, place or occasion, and will work well in an office setting. It leans a little bit fresh and a little bit earthy, and feels kind of like a Spring/Summer scent, but can be worn in any season or weather. Some people have compared this scent to Bois Imperial from Essential Parfums, but it kind of smells like a denser version of Wulong Cha from Nishane. TRY THIS SAMPLE AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

Inspiration

Matsukita is a reimagining of the 1892 release from Crown Perfumery. It takes inspiration from Victorian England’s obsession with Japanese culture, and a Japanese Princess who enchanted the Victorian courts. 

Notes

This scent opens with a bright, almost sweet and air freshness with Bergamot and Pink Pepper. Nutmeg adds an interesting spiciness that never fully develops as its familiar Nutmeg aroma, due to the Mate Tea coming in pretty quickly behind it. The Chinese Imperial Jasmine adds a soft, petally floral quality to the heart of the scent, kind of tempering the Tea note momentarily. The Amber Musk and Woods come in at the base, adding depth and helping with longevity. Overall this feels like a refreshing, almost realistic, Tea scent with added depth from the Woods.
