Vanille Leather is a powdery, floral, spicy scent created for Men and Women in 2023 by perfumer Dominique Ropion.
Review
This scent is an interesting one. At first it smells almost like scented doll heads, but then very quickly becomes much more sophisticated than that. Within minutes, you get the Vanilla and Leather combination, which quickly becomes more floral with Tuberose and Violet. The Leather lies just under the surface, blending with Patchouli and Oak Wood adding a warm and earthy quality, and Orris adding a warm and powdery quality. The Orris lends a slight vintage feel at times, but the earthy sweetness always comes back to envelope the flowers again. While it does have a floral vibe at times, it is definitely a scent that can be worn by anyone who likes things a little sweet. It can be worn any time, place, or occasion, and will work in all seasons…though it may be too rich for very hot, humid, days. It has been compared to Mercurial Cashmere from Electimuss London.
Inspiration
Vanille Leather is a love poem written to Vanilla. This fragrance was created to reveal the warmth and sensuality of the Vanilla Pod.
Notes
Vanilla can be felt immediately, sweet and fresh, followed immediately by the Leather Accord that is found in the base. Tuberose, Jasmine, and Orange Blossom add their almost-potent floral essence to the scent, being tapered by the Leather paired with Patchouli and Oak Wood from the base. Orris creeps up from the base, blending with the warmer notes and adding an interesting powdery quality that is almost cosmetic-like, but not quite. Benzoin Resinoid rounds out this scent, boosting the Vanilla and the Leather back into play. It feels like every note takes its turn before blending into the composition, then sneaking back in to remind you it’s there. Vanilla, Leather, Violet, and Orris are the stars of this show though.
