Outlands is a warm, sweet, Amber scent created for Men and Women in 2024 by perfumer Cecile Zarokian.
Review
This scent starts out a little resinous and earthy, but you very quickly feel the bright and sweet notes peeking through. At first it’s the Cardamom, Saffron and Davana blending to create a soft, sweet and spicy essence that seems to relax you. Then the Lemon, Elemi and Sichuan Pepper combine to create a refreshing and spicy essence that invigorates the mind. Then the Resins begin to seep through, adding a mild and sophisticated earthiness. Amber has a naturally mild sweetness to it, and this pairs with the Vanilla in the base, which keeps things warm and sweet and smooth as things begin to dry down. Though there are many more Resins and Woods in the base of this scent, it seems to maintain a warm, sweet, Vanilla essence, with all the depth in the background for quite a while. It feels comforting and sophisticated. THEN……the double layer of Frankincense starts to reveal itself, giving this scent more depth and a hint of a smoky essence. Overall, though, it does stay relatively sweet and warm with spicy undertones. It is a comforting and sophisticated scent that will work well in the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons. The double-infusion of sandalwood in Oakwood barrels during the maceration process gives this scent incredible performance. It is a scent that can be worn to the office, on date night, to a wedding, and everything in between. It has been compared to Parfums de Marly Layton.
Inspiration
Outlands is an olfactory expression of time; the Future. As indescribable as it isfresh familiar, it captures the essence of a constantly changing landscape that paves the way towards our future.
Notes
This scent opens with a hint of spiciness, before opening into a fresh, sweet, spicy, earthy scent. Frankincense releases a subtle smoky quality that is fairly fleeting as the heart seems to show itself before almost everything else. Davana, Anise and Saffron blend with the Orange Blossom and Rose, creating an almost fruity floral essence. Then you can very distinctly catch the Lemon note, pushing through with the help of bright Bergamot and the somewhat fresh element of the Elemi. Sichuan Pepper then blends with the Patchouli and spices found in the heart, adding a fresh and aromatic vibe to the mix. Things then become a touch sweeter and warmer as Amber, Ambergris and Vanilla combine. Benzoin, Labdanum, Frankincense and Opoponax add to the warmth and depth, somehow never making anything too intense. Birch and Oud sit in the base, keeping the earthy element of the scent thriving, still somehow never making the scent too intense. Musk finishes the scent with a subtle sultry, wispy decadence.
