Dates Delight is a sweet, spicy, woody scent created for Men and Women in 2016 by perfumer Andrea Casotti.
Review
This scent starts off a little sweet, develops a soft spice, and then becomes sweet again. Riyadh Dates blends with Cumarin, Caramel, Honey and an Icing Sugar Accord creating a sweetness that dances with the spicy and resinous blend of Cinnamon, Labdanum, Benzoin and Oud. The infusion is sweet and spicy and intoxicating. It feels exotic and enticing, but also somewhat familiar. At some points, it smells like the sweet icing that comes with gingerbread house kits…..that aroma infused with spices. Or maybe like an exotic bakery where sweet and savory treats are recreated from recipes found in other countries. It’s almost mouth-watering. As this scent dries down, the sweetness moves into the background and it develops a more smoky aroma, likely from the Kalimantan Oud. Its warmth makes it perfect for Fall, Winter and early Spring weather. It will work well almost any time, place or occasion and will last while slowly becoming more intimate on the skin. It has been compared to Oajan from Parfums de Marly.
Inspiration
Dates Delight takes inspiration from the Middle Eastern tradition of hospitality, where the Date is given to visitors as a symbol of warmth, generosity, peace and respect.
Notes
The Peony can be felt fleetingly, blending with the Riyadh Dates. The Date isn’t quite juicy in any way, but very subtly fruity. Next comes a melange of sweet and spicy as Vanilla-like Cumarin, Caramel, Tonka Bean, Cinnamon, Honey and an Icing Sugar Accord blends into the resinous depth of Labdanum, Benzoin and Oud. It is almost Gourmand, almost sweet-and-savory food-like, but definitely deliciously intoxicating.
