Fragrance inspirations are stories created around a fragrance.
Sometimes the story is created before the fragrance and guides the notes that are used. Sometimes the fragrance could be created first, and paints such a vivid image in the mind that, going forward, that is the story for the fragrance.
This can make the whole experience of fragrance so much more fun.
Caissa from Mind Games - This fragrance comes from Mind Games collection, where each scent is named after a Chess move, a Chess story, or something to do with Chess in general. Caissa tells the story of the Goddess of Chess. The story goes that Mars, the God of War, was in love with Caissa, but she turned down all of his advances. Mars turned to Euphron, the God of Sport, who created the game of Chess. Mars gifted Caissa the game of Chess in an attempt to win her affections. The story does not say if this gift worked, but thereafter, Caissa was known as the Goddess of Chess. The fragrance is soft and sweet, leaning slightly feminine with a blooming floral heart, Black Liquorice, Fougassette(bread) Accord, Amber, and Cocoa Bean.
XIX March from Tiziana Terenzi - This scent was inspired by a Springtime tradition in Italy. On the 19th of March, just before the Spring Equinox, a large bonfire is built and all of the dead twigs and brush are burned to make room for the rebirth of Spring. The fragrance is fresh and zesty with a subtle, sweet, Fougere or Barbershop-like style. It blends Citruses, Lavender, Spices, Green Leaves, Cedarwood, and Vetiver.
Shalimar from Guerlain - This scent is an infamous classic that has been around, in various formats, since 1925. The fragrance was inspired by the passionate love story of Emperor Shahjahan and his wife Mumtaz, which culminated in the creation of the Taj Mahal. The name Shalimar comes from the Gardens of Shalimar, said to be Mumtaz’s favorite garden, as well as the Sanskrit word meaning ‘Temple of Love’. The bottle was modelled after the basins within the Shalimar Gardens. The fragrance is a warm and spicy floral scent. Balsamic Notes, Tonka Bean, Vanilla and Amber add warmth and depth to a floral heart of Iris, Rose, and Jasmine, with a bright touch of Bergamot. It’s sophisticated and sultry.
We love the stories behind the fragrances. It adds another layer to the scent besides just the notes.
We’d love to hear about some of your favorite fragrance inspirations.
