Fragrance Layering

Fragrance Layering

Fragrance layering is something that people are talking about more and more. But what does fragrance layering mean exactly?

In essence, it’s wearing one or more scented products together to give your fragrance a boost.

This can be the body wash, moisturizer, and fragrance all in the same aroma. Some people take this a step further and add in the matching body oil, powder, or even the matching body mist to layer on top.

For some people, fragrance layering means wearing more than one fragrance together. This type of fragrance layering is mostly all trial and error until you find the right combination for you.

For layering with body products, we suggest either using an unscented body wash and lotion or cream, or a body wash and lotion or cream in the same scent as your fragrance, or something with similar main notes. Unscented products will help your fragrance to last longer, and body products made with the same scent as your fragrance will give your scent a nice pop and depth, and will also help with longevity.

When layering with more than one fragrance, we suggest using fragrances that have similar notes in them to start with. The fragrance with the heavier, richer, warmer, woodier, spicer, etc, aroma should be applied first, and the lighter, cleaner, sweeter scent should go on top.

If you have a fragrance that too rich or intense, you can layer a fruity or citrus based scent on top to mellow the intensity….or if you have a fragrance that you like, but wish it had a little more intensity to it, you can layer it with a warmer scent, such a something with woods, Amber, or even Vanilla, to give it more depth.

The more you experiment, the better you’ll get an idea of what works for you and how you want to layer.

If you’re interested in layering combos you see online, just keep this in mind - just because the recommended combo works for that person, doesn’t mean it will smell the same on you.

Just like when we recommend that you try a fragrance on the skin before committing to a full bottle, trying out other peoples layering recommendations should be tried with caution.

A fragrance that smells amazing on your friend might smell horrible on you. The same goes for layering combos, whether fragrance and body care or fragrance and fragrance.

In the end, all forms of fragrance layering are an experiment. Have fun with it and see what works for you!
