BDK Parfums Gris Charnel was a big hit pretty much as soon as it was released.
It was created by perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui in 2019. It is a balance of light and dark that leaves a sensual trail.
This balance can be felt as fresher essences of Fig and Black Tea give way to a soft touch of Iris and the warmth of the earthy nuance of Bourbon Vetiver. An almost boozy quality is achieved as Indian Sandalwood releases a creamy nuance and pairs with the resinous sweetness of Tonka Bean.
Gris Charnel is inspired by a chance meeting between two free spirits. Their eyes meet across the dance floor and they are immediately drawn to each other. They feel lighter than air as they dance the night away. They smile and laugh, and exchange knowing glances, eventually slipping away into the night together. A starry sky blurs into the golden aura of the early morning light as they give in to more carnal desires.
Gris Charnel translates to ‘Carnal Grey’, and definitively echoes the haze of waking in the early morning after an unforgettable evening.
Gris Charnel is almost a skin scent as it dries down, but it maintains a carnal nature, like a lover who refuses to be forgotten.
Its popularity and success lead to the release of Gris Charnel Extrait in 2022, also created by Mathilde Bijaoui.
Gris Charnel Extrait is a more intense version of the original Gris Charnel, accentuating Parisian sensuality. A new level of magnetism and captivation are reached, enticing the wearer even further into this magical night of passion.
Additional notes are added to the original composition, with Cistus Essence deepening the boozy quality, Indonesian Patchouli adding a darker touch to the earthy quality, Cedar Essence giving the freshness a sharper vibe, and Vanilla Absolute adding the creamy sweetness of the dry down.
These additions result in a deeper, more fiery, scent with a slightly warmer sensuality.
Everyone seems to experience Gris Charnel a little differently from the next person, but it is definitely something worth trying out. It veers off the beaten path of other fragrances with similar notes, and almost always surprises the wearer.
