Baccarat Rouge 540. The infamous fragrance created by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
Originally created for the Baccarat Crystal House to celebrate their 250th anniversary, the demand was so high that it was released in non-Baccarat crystal bottles and was open for the world to fall in love with it.
After great success, the Extrait version was created. Minutely different in its composition, it is ever-so-slightly different, and lighter, but with extended longevity.
With so much popularity following Baccarat Rouge 540, people have begun to look for other scents to try, sometimes comparable, sometimes kind of similar, and sometimes completely different altogether.
The main notes of both versions of Baccarat Rouge 540 are Saffron, Ambroxan, and Virginian Cedar. The Eau de Parfum uses a not called Hedione, a high-grade synthetic compound that’s aroma is of Jasmine with a lemony nuance…sometimes Tea.
The Extrait uses Egyptian Jasmine, instead of the Hedione note, and adds Cashmeran, a high-grade synthetic Musk.
Spirito Fiorentino from Tiziana Terenzi blends Orange, Jasmine, and Saffron with Amber found in both the Heart and Base layers. Sandalwood, Musk, and Leather add depth.
Ooh La Rouge from Christian Siriano White Star Jasmine with Tuberose and Gardenia in the heart. Ruby Grapefruits adds a bright pop, while Musk and Blond Amber Wood add depth and warmth.
*Exclusif is a more intense version, with Sheer Jasmine blending with Saffron and Fir Balsam. Musk and Amberwood are combined with Boya Wood(Oud Boya) creates a more sultry vibe.
Oud for Greatness from Initio Parfums Prives has some of the depth that Baccarat Rouge 540 does, but not much in the way of sweetness. Oud Wood and Agar Wood make this scent more woody and earthy, with Saffron, Musk, and Nutmeg creating a kind of sweetness, or smoothness.
Wirtanen from Tiziana Terenzi boasts 2 types of Oud notes, but you would almost never know it! Bergamot brightens a floral blend of Ylang Ylang, Rose, Jasmine, and Peony, while notes of Caramel and Vanilla add a gentle sweetness. Sandalwood, Ambergris, and Musk add a sultry warmth. Most reviews of Wirtanen add up to a comparison of Baccarat Rouge 540 blended with Delina Exclusif from Parfums de Marly.
Ambre Royal from Ormonde Jayne is an Amber based scent that has a velvety warmth and sweetness that is comparable to Baccarat Rouge 540. Orange and Bergamot add a brightness to a blend of Jasmine and Amber in the heart. Ambroxan, Tonka Bean, and Musk in the base add the warmth and sultry essence with a crisp touch of Cedarwood.
Soleil from Lalique is a sweet and warm Gourmand style scent. It is more Lactonic than the Baccarat Rouge 540 with notes of Caffe Latte and Bitter Almond, and sweetness from Praline and a Pear Granita Accord. A brightness comes from Mandarin, and warmth from Sandalwood and Musk. It is similar and different from Baccarat Rouge 540, but worth a try if you love the sweetness from the Baccarat.
Depending on the way Baccarat Rouge 540 develops on your skin, there are a plethora of fragrances that can be great alternatives.
You never know what you’ll fall in love with next!
