Mitsouko is an earthy, spicy, floral fragrance created for Women in 2021 as part of the Guerlain Les Legendaires collection.
Review
This scent is spicy, yet gentle and elegantly timeless. Its essence reaches into the past, when Chypre fragrances were boundless, and brings a feeling of vintage and modern colliding. A blend of spices is tempered with Rose, Moss, and Patchouli, and a hint of a Peach Accord. It feels sophisticated, opulent, and stylish. It almost brings a feeling of ‘old money’, and you can almost imagine yourself in pearls and a fur coat, roaming where you please. It is a scent that can be worn to the office and will transition well to happy hour settings. It can be dressed up and work perfectly for formal or professional occasions, or you can wear it anytime you want to feel commanding. It is comparable to its 1919 version that lived long through the 21st century.
Inspiration
Mitsouko takes inspiration from the heroine, named Mitsouko, of a book called La Bataille, the story of a married Japanese woman who falls in love with a British soldier.
Notes
The spice blend of Black Pepper, Cardamom, and Pink Berries blends with the earthy essence of Moss, that is found in the base of this scent, giving the opening that classic Chypre aroma. Rose Centifolia and Jasmine come in next, adding a gentle floral thread. Bergamot brings a brightness that is paired with a Peach Accord that adds a gentle sweetness that breaks up any sharpness. Patchouli and Vetiver lie in the base of this scent, with Patchouli boosting the spices and Vetiver boosting the earthy/Chypre tones. Everything blends perfectly so that you smell each not together in harmony.
