Oud Bleu Intense is a Woody, Resinous, Aromatic scent created for Men and Women in 2013 by perfumer Guillaume Flavigny.
Review
This scent is fresh and intense at the same time. It opens with an almost sweet spiciness alongside the freshness of Mandarin. It’s almost sparkling in a way. It becomes smooth and smoky and aromatic….and then the darkness sets in. It’s almost like you’re on a yacht at sunset in some exotic paradise where you can taste the spices in the air. It’s got the aroma of something like an Old Fashioned drink….or like woods soaked in Bourbon. It has a smoothness and a brightness, but so much depth and resinousness. The base is all Resins, Amber tones, and Oud. But it’s still not too intense. It does have a mellow quality, but could be too punchy for some people. It has a richness to it that feels like something a millionaire would wear to Montauk for a weekend of sailing and cocktail parties. It might be too much for the office, and it isn’t quite casual, but can be worn just about any time. It feels appropriate for Fall, Winter, and Springtime. It has moderate projection and will last forever, even as it begins to mellow.
Inspiration
Oud Bleu Intense is inspired by juxtapositions. It is born of a love of the ocean’s tranquility and cool breezes on the skin, as well as the complexity of an ensemble of woods. Perhaps the dream began with daydreams of old wooden ships sailing through storms.
Notes
The opening of this scent is a subtle spicy freshness with natural sweetness of Cardamom and Nutmeg blended with fresh Mandarin. The Mandarin seems to last to the end, which intensifies quite a bit. The Frankincense and Myrrh bring an Incense Vibe, before freshening up slightly. Then, everything takes a dive into the resins with Opopona Resinoid, Myrrh Resinoid, and Benzoin blending with the richness of the Oud, and the smokiness of the Styrax. Things get kind of intense before mellowing into the Amber and the Ambery Cistus. The Mandarin from the opening can still be felt all throughout this intensity, helping to add a unique brightness. A boozy quality develops, dancing between the aroma of an Old Fashioned cocktail and Wood soaked in Bourbon. At the end, it feels like things lighten up, and a very subtle aquatic quality emerges, but always in a way where you’re not quite sure if that’s what you’re smelling. It’s definitely an interesting scent.
