With so many fragrances houses that are on the market, it can be difficult to decide which ones to bring into our limited space.

Most of the time, we like to try samples on our skin before we decide. We want to get a feel for the fragrance, see what its aroma is, how it changes, how long it lasts, its overall performance, and see if we think it would be a good fit for our niche shop.

We take into consideration what people are asking for, what fragrances people are talking about, what’s popular but still not easily found anywhere and everywhere. 

Depending on the length of my sleeves, I can typically try 2-6 fragrances in one day.

I’ll try each fragrance on the skin, spraying on different pulse points, and take notes throughout the day. Having my thoughts written down helps me to go back and see what I thought about a scent upon initial spray, after it’s been on the skin for 30 minutes, how it’s doing after a few hours, and then how it’s sitting after being on the skin all day. 

Personally trying fragrances this way gives us a better understanding of them, and helps us in conversation about them, whether we bring them in or if someone is asking about them. It helps us to figure out if people who come across them in our store will like them and enjoy them. 

Sometimes we use this process with a new fragrance even if we carry other scents from the same collection. Other times we just bring it in regardless of smelling the scent beforehand, so that we can expand upon a collection that we either really love or that is popular within our shop.

Our space is kind of limited, so we like to make sure we’re bringing in amazing new scents.

We like to stay away from fragrances that can be easily found in our surrounding areas, or that do not fit into the niche style of our space.

Sometimes what we bring in is very limited, other times we may introduce multiple new collections.
