Pheromones and Fragrances

We get asked a lot about fragrances made with pheromones. It used to be a big, “I don’t know”, but we’ve taken some time to do the research, and will share with you what it all comes down to.

Pheromones are chemical compounds that can trigger attraction.

The effects of pheromones are most notable in the animal kingdom, playing a large role in marking territory, identifying each other, and in finding a mate.

It is said that animals pick up pheromones through something called the Vomeronasal Organ, found in the nose. Humans do have this organ as well, but there is not enough research to know if we use ours.

Humans do produce pheromones that might make someone more appealing, but there is no evidence that they make enough of a difference in how we find someone attractive or not. Human attraction is much more complex than in animals, and we don’t require these hormones to feel desire for someone.

Pheromone perfumes are marketed as scents that inspire sexual attraction, and likely contain synthetic versions of the various chemical compounds that humans produce, and/or animal musks. Not all companies are clear on what this means when it comes to their products, so it can be confusing.

While scents can play a role in how you feel about someone, pheromones may not have anything to do with it. There are definitely fragrances that are marketed as sexy, or attractive, but it mostly comes down to personal preference in the end.

Overall, no one really knows when it comes to human pheromones and attraction, and pheromones in fragrances.

At Parfumerie Nasreen, we do have a number of scents that many people find attractive and love on their partners. Stop by any time and we can deep dive into the subject together!
