What are niche fragrances? In a nutshell, they are specialty fragrances.
The definition of ‘Niche’ is:
~“A specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service” …or… ~“Denoting products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population”.
Niche fragrances are the alternative to the mass produced variety you might find in a major department store or big retailer. They are typically created by an independent brand vs a big designer house.
With niche fragrances, there is more exclusivity, as the fragrances are made in limited runs and are typically found in smaller, specialty, boutiques.
They also tend not to have much advertising, mostly sticking to social media, and are not endorsed by, or associated with, celebrities.
Quality and originality takes precedence over what’s popular or trendy, with the best available ingredients sourced, giving better longevity and range. With this, niche fragrances tend to change on the skin, developing over time as the oils blend with each person’s personal chemistry.
Indie perfumes go a step further than niche, usually being produced and sold by a small company, sometimes with the perfumer doing 100% of the work, from making the perfume to packaging to selling in their own boutique or in a specialty boutique.
Some fragrances start out more niche, and make it big enough that they end up being sold in the department stores and bigger retailers. With this, sometimes things change, sometimes not.
At Parfumerie Nasreen, we carry a variety of niche fragrances, as well as a small selection of fashion brands, and are always happy to help guide you through the world of niche fragrances.
