Fragrance Spotlight: Parfums de Marly Layton

Layton is a beloved fragrance from the Parfums de Marly collection. Created by perfume Hamid Merati-Kashani and launched in 2016, it quickly became a fan favorite as a different kind of dark and Gourmand fragrance.

Toted as being the essence of Debonair, it is chic, smooth and distinguished with a charming quality. It feels almost regal in its sophistication, yet has a playful nature to it that comes from the lightness of the Apple and Vanilla notes.

The sweetness begins immediately with Apple, Bergamot, and a touch of Vanilla creeping up from the base. A floral heart smooths things out with Lavender peeking out from behind the bouquet. The Vanilla essence blooms a little brighter as Amber, Pepper, and Guaiacwood bring a smooth warmth and a note of Caramelized Coffee adds a bit of pizazz that stays just under the surface.

It has the feeling of Autumn, but its brightness will make it work in most seasons and weather.

The scent pyramid breaks down as:

Top: Apple, Bergamot, Lavender
Heart: Jasmine, VIolet, Geranium, Amber
Base: Vanilla, Pepper, Guaiacwood, Patchouli, Coffee

With the success of Layton, Layton Exclusif was launched in 2017, also created by perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani.

With this version, some of the flowers are taken out and replaced with notes that bring more depth. Guaiacwood is joined by Agarwood and Cypriol to bring a more woody essence to the dry down, Grapefruit joins the opening to add a little more zest vs sweetness, and Cinnamon joins the party, in lieu of Coffee, for a nice spice kick.

The sweetness and brightness is still there, but there is more intensity and maturity in this scent.

It maintains the debonair quality of the original Layton, but with a more striking and refined quality.

The scent pyramid breaks down as:

Top: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Apple
Heart: Geranium, Cinnamon, Lavender, Agarwood
Base: Cypriol, Guaiacwood, Patchouli, Vanilla

Both fragrances are similar, but are their own scent. Two branches of the same tree.

While each scent was created for anyone to wear, they do have a slightly masculine-leaning vibe.

You can find them both at Parfumerie Nasreen, and get a feeling of both for yourself.
