Fragrance Inspirations

Fragrances can change the way we feel, or create a feeling. They can excite you, make you feel moody, sexy, flirty, etc.

Sometimes we imagine our own story for the fragrance. For instance, the first time I smelled Ormonde Woman from Ormonde Jayne, I painted an image of a magical enchantress who lives deep in the woods…the aromas of the earth, the forest, the vegetation making her smell exotic and alluring. This is what came to mind for me.

Sometimes the perfume imagines a story and shares with the world that inspiration, painting the picture for us. This inspiration transports us to another world, in the same way that books can.

Today we’re sharing some of our favorite fragrance inspirations that are sure to transport you to a scent-sational world:)

Rhodanthe from Electimuss London tells the story of a young woman with such infamous beauty, that suitors would come from far and wide across the world to pursue her. The suitors were relentless, so Rhodanthe sought the protection from her friend, the Goddess Diana. Diana transformed Rhodanthe into a beautiful Rose, and her suitors into its thorns.

Vain & Naive from Nishane, as well as many of the fragrance from Nishane, takes inspiration from The Little Prince. Vain & Naive’s main note is Rose, as is the true love of the Prince. The story goes that the Rose told the Prince that she was unique, which he questions after finding a Rose garden during his travels. In the end, the lesson is that of timeless stories of romantic love the world over. There may be many people out there in the world, but there is only one person who is perfect for you. “There might be millions of Roses in the whole world, but you are my only one, unique Rose.”

Black Monsoon Attar from Parfumerie Nasreen is a scent that is close to our hearts. It was created by Parfumerie Nasreen’s second owner, Shilpa, in collaboration with the infamous Attar makers in India, where Shilpa is from. It is inspired by the monsoon season in India, when heavy rains cover the land, generally from June to September. It embodies the aromas of the dry earth becoming saturated and full, creating that slightly Vanillic aroma of Petrichor. The vegetation and flowers drink up the lifewater and bloom, releasing their precious scents. This is the scent of Mother Earth on the skin.

Jardin Nocturne from Shalini Parfums comes straight from the memories of Shalini Kumar, founder of Shalini Parfums. It recalls an evening in Dubai, and taking in the moment in a friend’s garden terrace. The night blooming Jasmine fills the senses, as does the ever-present aroma of Oud burning in the air. The stars of the night sky shine brightly and the moonlight bounces off the nearby ponds and fountains…..the moment seems surreal and is forever painted into your memory.

These are just some of our favorite stories that inspired fragrances we love so much.

We do our best to include these inspirations in the descriptions for each fragrance on our website, but you can find them all, and so many more, at Parfumerie Nasreen in Seattle.
